28. The staples come out after thirty minutes.
If you take them out too soon, the edges slide away from each other and you end up with a ridge. If you leave them in much longer than 30 minutes, they leave a visible mark where they cross the join and got stuck to the silicone.

The wad of cloth in this instance provided enough supporting pressure in the right place to hold the cut closed while the two-part silicone set.
