At this point the cut has had adhesive applied three times. Once to close the cut to the spine. Another to close the cut up to the joint. And one more to seal to a point about 1/2 inch (12 mm) from the surface. This is done to allow an air gap for solvents in the adhesive to gas off and cure properly.
