These are necessary to ensure that the set screws go into the holes in the pivot. Make sure that the pivot is marked so that the hole in the joint body lines up with the proper hole in the pivot. Also, these marks should be on the other side of the joint body. Once this joint was in the doll it was nearly impossible to see them.
